The story

Quite Frankly Antwerp: Straightforward American Diner Spirit

The chef and the kitchen

Quite Frankly brings a straightforward American diner spirit to Antwerp. Restaurateur Steven Vijverman founded the spot to capture that classic roadside café energy, leaving the daily grill work to Thomas Van de Weyer. He approaches every plate as a study in honest American cooking, starting with a smashed beef patty on a soft bun alongside aged cheddar and dill pickles.

Morning plates and street food classics

The cheesesteak features thinly sliced Angus steak melted with sharp cheddar and green peppers on fresh loaves from De Bakkerji. Diners often pair these sandwiches with massive pickled cucumbers or a drizzle of Swet hot sauce. Early visitors can still order thick buttermilk pancakes soaked in maple syrup and topped with fried eggs.

The dining room

A royal blue counter anchors the space while chrome stools line the serving area. This straightforward setup caught the attention of Le Fooding, which listed the venue in its 2026 guide. The layout encourages quick service and relaxed conversation throughout the midday rush.

Where’s the most rock’n’roll breakfast in town? After covering all his bases at Bistro Kastrol and Zero53, serial restaurateur Steven Vijverman came to a natural conclusion with this diner in Antwerp, (almost) like you’d find over in the US of A, complete with a royal blue counter, chrome bar stools and branded mugs. On top of that, manning the griddle is Americanophile Thomas Van de Weyer (ex-Vis van A and Octave), who brings Route 66 to Belgium for rumbling bellies: a classic cheeseburger with a soft and squishy bun, stacked with a smashed beef patty (the meat is from Australia – a darn shame!), cheddar, pickles and onions; or a triumphant cheesesteak like you’d get in Philly – a sammie stuffed with Angus steak, cheddar and green peppers, made on tasty bread from the De Bakkerji bakery. Order with optional sides, like huuuuuge sandwich pickles, Swet hot sauce or Bonilla a la Vista gourmet potato chips. Early riser? The thick and fluffy buttermilk pancakes drizzled in maple syrup and topped with eggs and bacon are the American dream! // Kiko Zushi
