The story
RAS – short for Restaurant Aan de Stroom – sits directly on the Ernest Van Dijckkaai in Antwerpen, its tall windows offering an uninterrupted panorama of the Scheldt river. The building itself has history: originally the Zuiderterras, a neoclassical pavilion from 1886, it burned down in 1973 and was rebuilt in the early 1990s under the direction of Flemish master architect bOb Van Reeth. That reconstruction marked a shift in the city’s focus back to the waterfront. Today, the interiors feel like a quiet tribute to that lineage – understated, refined, with a careful balance of Antwerp design, art, and architecture. The atmosphere is one of relaxed elegance, perfect for a long lunch or a celebratory dinner.
The cooking at RAS follows the rhythm of the seasons. The menu is deliberately concise: a tight selection of classics built on top-quality ingredients, prepared with a respect for simplicity. That simplicity is not plainness – it is an effort to let each flavour speak clearly. You see it in dishes like frisse burrata with piquillo peppers and confit tomato, or a classic North Sea sole meunière. Seasonal suggestions rotate regularly. The kitchen also pays attention to detail in every element, from the homemade fries to the polished service. The wine list, strong on top bottles by the glass, completes the experience.
RAS earned a Michelin Recommended award in 2026, a nod to its consistent delivery of modern cuisine that feels both grounded and generous. The connection to the river is more than a view – it infuses the restaurant with a sense of place. Whether you come for a business lunch, a private party in the upstairs event space, or simply a quiet dinner watching the lights on the water, RAS delivers a total experience that is memorably Antwerp.
