The story
Fico is an osteria and micro boutique on rue Américaine in Brussels, run by Nadia Bruno with the help of her brother Giovanni. The name comes from the Italian word for fig – a fruit that appears in the restaurant’s logo and reflects the sweet, sun-ripened spirit of the cooking. The kitchen focuses on Sicilian and Italian cuisine, with an emphasis on sharing and “gusto del sud” – taste of the south.
Nadia’s mother Grazziella was a generous home cook, and those flavours are the foundation of the menu. “I can spend hours reworking her classics,” Nadia writes. The restaurant describes itself as a place where the food and atmosphere recreate the big, lively Italian family tables everyone envies. Though the menu changes, dishes are built around pasta, vegetables, and street food – but no pizza. The lunch formula (Tuesday to Friday) offers a starter, main, and coffee for €30.
Fico’s warm, unfussy approach earned it a Michelin Recommended distinction in 2026. The guide nods to the restaurant’s honest, flavour-driven cooking and the convivial setting that makes it a neighbourhood favourite.
Fico is open Tuesday to Saturday for lunch and dinner. Friday and Saturday evening are split into two services – the first seating begins around 19:15 and tables must be freed by 21:30 for the second service, which starts around 21:15. Reservations are accepted only through the online booking module, not by email.
The restaurant’s tagline, “Not Only Pasta – Italian Food to Share,” sums up its philosophy: simple, southern, and best enjoyed in good company.
