The story
Siblings Madeleine and Ziad Abboud bring a warm family approach to Lebanese cuisine at Mazmiz in Brussels. Le Fooding highlights this neighborhood venue in its 2026 guide for straightforward cooking and flavorful spreads.
Madeleine and Ziad grew up surrounded by Lebanese cooking traditions. Their parents escaped the war in Lebanon during 1986 and opened a restaurant in France before establishing Le Phenicia in Woluwe-Saint-Lambert. Brother and sister Madeleine and Ziad studied hotel management in Namur and reunited to create Mazmiz. The name functions as an anagram of their first names and captures the Lebanese custom of sharing small dishes with loved ones.
Fresh preparation defines the daily routine at the Rue du Taciturne kitchen. A buffet displays cold and hot mezzes such as tabouleh and mnazleh. Cumin-spiced falafel joins the selection alongside outstanding hummus and smooth tahini. Fatayer filled with spinach sits next to wraps featuring halloumi with lettuce and honey dressing. The kitchen also offers the Croq wrap with the meat of the day and serves baklava with coffee.
Rue du Taciturne hosts a cozy interior that matches the casual service style. A terrace extends the seating area and remains open until two in the afternoon. Patrons frequently note the relaxed mood and the staff's attentiveness, which sometimes results in a complimentary dessert tasting. The layout accommodates both dine-in guests and takeaway orders efficiently.
