The story
Benoît Bernard, formerly of the Michelin-starred La Laiterie, has taken the reins at L'Arbre in Gruson. His vision is clear: a cuisine that is uncomplicated, local, seasonal, and entirely homemade. The restaurant’s ethos revolves around conviviality, generosity, and authenticity—a place where people come to laugh, toast, and eat with pleasure.
Set between Paris and Roubaix, surrounded by cobblestones and countryside, L'Arbre feels like a true local hub. It’s a spot for an aperitif with friends, a lunch with colleagues, or a Sunday walk-in. The vibe is relaxed and welcoming, with outdoor seating for warmer days and a private party space for celebrations.
The menu changes with the seasons and the market. Recent offerings include a "Menu du Pavé" at 31 €—featuring filet of mackerel with tomato concassé, new garlic, and balsamic reduction, followed by duck fillet with Lingots du Nord beans, and poached strawberries with yogurt and mint. For a more indulgent experience, the "Menu L'échapée du Homard" (60 €) presents lobster in several courses: a gaspacho of lobster, a verveine melon, lobster with tomato vierge and saffron scrambled eggs, roasted lobster with thyme and eggplant, and a finale of strawberries.
The à la carte section highlights items like Croquettes de Crevettes à l'Ostendaise, marinated swordfish, langoustine ravioli, and a range of mains including filet of beef with potato emulsion, Saint-Pierre with spring vegetables, and veal chop with aubergine caviar. Desserts include the signature "Pavé du Paris Roubaix" and a citrus tart with pecan.
Michelin has recognised L'Arbre with a Recommended status, a nod to its commitment to quality modern cuisine in a relaxed, unpretentious setting. The award underscores the restaurant’s ability to deliver a memorable dining experience rooted in the best of northern France.
