The story
Du pep’s in Nogent-le-Rotrou approaches local café cuisine through a collaborative lens rather than a single authorial voice. Solange Gelblat, Marine Reed, and Ingrid Heuel combined their backgrounds in journalism, hospitality, and marketing to launch the venue. They designed the space to function as both a neighborhood gathering point and a small grocery corner. The trio prioritizes straightforward service and community-focused scheduling over elaborate presentation.
Ghizlaine and Lola handle the daily prep using ingredients drawn from nearby producers. Their menu favors uncomplicated preparations that let quality ingredients speak. Visitors often sample the house terrine alongside tangy pickled vegetables and fresh loaves from Maison Pichard. This focus on straightforward French cooking keeps the menu grounded and accessible.
Large windows frame the central square on both sides of the dining room. Scandinavian-inspired furnishings keep the interior feeling uncluttered and easy to navigate. Guests can step outside onto the terrace during warmer months to watch the weekly market unfold. The modest scale suits the relaxed pace of neighbourhood bistro fare, a balance recently noted by Le Fooding.
