The story
In Berlin’s Neukölln district, Barra is a place built on the idea that food is better shared. The kitchen turns out small, thoughtful dishes that follow the rhythm of the seasons, letting produce speak for itself.
The menu changes regularly, but a recent example shows the style: a KYS oyster with elderflower, a celery and apple salad with Colston Bassett Stilton and hazelnut, or trout with blood orange and roe. There is a fallow deer tartare, a simple tonnarelli cacio e pepe, and a larger plate of monkfish with potato, monk’s beard, and whey butter. A Simmentaler entrecôte with Goldies fries and black pepper aioli is priced per 100g. Desserts include blood orange and brown butter ice cream, and malt cake with buttermilk ice cream.
The wine list is equally considered. Barra describes it as “a balanced selection of our favourite wines right now,” with a focus on bottles that represent a respectful sense of place. By the glass options range from a Muschelkalk Weiss from Burgenland to a Savagnin from the Jura, and the bottle list spans German rieslings, Loire Chenin Blancs, and grower Champagnes.
The dining room is set for counter dining, creating an intimate, direct connection between guest and kitchen. It is open Monday to Friday from 18:00. The Michelin Guide awarded Barra a Bib Gourmand in 2025, recognising its good quality, good value cooking. That recognition fits naturally here: the cooking is precise but unfussy, seasonal without being precious, and the whole experience feels like a well-considered evening among friends.
