The story
In the heart of Berlin’s Charlottenburg, what was once a jazz café has become BRIKZ – a restaurant named for the red bricks that still line its walls. The space, with its large terrace and relaxed interior, is home to chef Arne Anker’s kitchen philosophy: seasonal, regional, and anything but static.
Anker’s cooking is built on a foundation of refreshing acidity and rare herbs. He works with more than thirty different vinegars and citrus fruits like Buddha’s Hand, Kafir Limes, and Finger Limes. Each dish is a response to what is available at the moment. When a product runs out, the dish changes – no fuss, no waiting. This flexibility is part of the restaurant’s identity, and it keeps the menu in constant, lively evolution.
The team uses every part of an ingredient. What cannot be used immediately is preserved, fermented, or pickled, often turning into homemade liquors or unexpected garnishes. This approach is not a gimmick – it is the everyday reality of the kitchen.
BRIKZ offers a five to seven-course menu, available with fish and meat, vegetarian, or vegan options. There is also a small à la carte selection. The kitchen is happy to accommodate individual preferences – meat lovers can dine with vegetarians, and fish allergies are no problem, as long as they are mentioned in advance.
Arne Anker, a native of northern Germany, is a regular at Markthalle 9 on Fridays. He meets with herb farmers, butchers, and other producers, always learning and bringing back new products. These conversations fuel his drive to keep developing. For him, standing still is a step backwards.
The restaurant’s dedication to modern cuisine and its creative, sustainable approach has earned it a Michelin Recommended distinction, affirming that BRIKZ is a place to watch in Berlin’s dining scene.
Whether you come for the five-course menu or a casual à la carte dinner, the food at BRIKZ is a direct reflection of the season and the chef’s restless curiosity.
