The story
What started in 2016 as a dessert bar has evolved into something entirely unexpected: CODA Dessert Dining, a two-Michelin-starred restaurant in Berlin that defies easy labels. Chef-patron René Frank and his team have created a progressive menu rooted in the techniques of patisserie, but where sweetness is never the main act.
At CODA, traditional distinctions between savory and sweet, starter and dessert, simply dissolve. Each course surprises with its creative composition, presented in a minimalist style reduced to its essence. The kitchen philosophy is nonconformist and independent, exploring the boundaries of what is gastronomically possible through seasonal, high-quality ingredients. Intense umami plays with natural sweetness; the result is a cuisine that is both innovative and sustainable.
The menu changes regularly, and guests are guided through the evening by a carefully selected wine flight or a range of non-alcoholic pairings. The wine list itself is a draw, featuring natural Champagnes, aged German Rieslings, and premium Japanese sake.
CODA is located where Berlin's Kreuzberg nightlife meets the gentrified hipsterism of Neukölln. The interior is purist and urban, designed to let you focus entirely on the food. The team, led by restaurant manager Elise Czakó, accompanies you through the evening with genuine warmth. It is a space where you can spend hours immersed in a truly unique gourmet journey.
