The story
In the heart of Berlin, inside an architectural gem on Lindenstraße, NaNum is a restaurant built on radical simplicity. The kitchen draws from Korean tradition, focusing on fermented foods, seaweed, dry aged fish, and natural wine. The menu is mostly vegan, with fish but no meat, offering an intense, aromatic journey of small treasures.
Jinok Kim, former opera singer and ceramic artist, opened NaNum at age 66. Her passion for fermentation and Korean culinary heritage shapes every dish. Together with her husband Dirk Eicken, she creates a space where East meets West, informed by her Korean roots and European life. Kim's ceramics are used to serve the food – earthy, wild forms that add a tangible layer to the experience. Guests can visit her atelier and exhibition space upstairs.
All fermentation is done in-house, and the restaurant runs its own garden, sourcing sustainably. The result is an "extraordinary aroma journey" of small, intense treasures. The menu changes with the seasons; spontaneous adjustments reflect what's fresh. Wednesday and Thursday offer a smaller five-course menu, while the full eight-course experience – available in plant-only or plant-plus-fish variations – is served all evenings.
This dedication to Korean contemporary cuisine and craft has earned NaNum a Michelin Recommendation for 2026, affirming its place among Berlin's most thoughtful kitchens.
