The story
For thirteen years, Richard Bistro has been a fixture on Köpenicker Straße in Berlin’s Kreuzberg. Chef Hans Richard and his team have created a place of genuine hospitality, where the food is precise and the atmosphere unhurried. The Michelin Guide has awarded the restaurant a “Recommended” recognition, a nod to its consistent quality and thoughtful cooking.
The menu changes with the seasons, but the style is clear: Modern Cuisine built on classic technique. Dishes like the crudité of tuna with saffron and tomato, or the glazed agnolotti filled with Taleggio, spinach, and roasted onion, show a kitchen that respects ingredients without fuss. The bitterness of radicchio meets sweet, roasted pear in the duck breast, while the venison loin comes with a date-cashew condiment and a crisp polenta slice.
Hans Richard’s farewell letter, shared on the restaurant’s website, speaks of “a place of taste, hospitality, and passion.” That sentiment is evident in every detail, from the house-made sourdough bread to the carefully chosen German wine list. The bistro is small, the evenings are calm, and the cooking is honest.
Richard Bistro will close permanently on December 15, 2025. Until then, it remains open Monday through Saturday, offering a final chance to experience a restaurant that has defined a certain kind of Berlin dining—unpretentious, precise, and deeply personal.
