The story
At Teko by Lange Rodriguez, chef Hans R. Lange Rodriguez brings his dual heritage to the table. Born in Bolivia to a German father and a Bolivian mother, he moved to Germany young and discovered his passion for cooking. "Teko" is a Guaraní word meaning "culture" — and that concept flows through every dish. Here, German precision meets the vibrant acidity and warmth of South American cuisine. The result is a restaurant that earned a Michelin Recommendation, alongside other accolades from Der Feinschmecker, Gault&Millau, and Gusto.
Dinner is a fixed five- to seven-course menu, guided by season and region but accented with South American flavors. The kitchen plays with aromatic depth, lively acidity, and a touch of spice — each course part of a deliberate arc. Vegetarian and vegan requests are welcome when noted at booking. The chef describes his approach as modern and classical, with creativity and a secret ingredient: love and passion.
Opened in October 2023, the restaurant seats just 25 guests in Essen's Rüttenscheid quarter. The setting is modern and intimate, suited for fine-dining evenings or private celebrations. Catering and event hosting are also available. For those who enjoy a multi-course experience built on careful technique and personal history, Teko by Lange Rodriguez offers a clear, focused point of view.
