The story
In the lively streets of Cologne's Belgisches Viertel, HENNE.Weinbar brings together a passion for wine and a kitchen that clearly means business. The restaurant earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2026, a recognition that celebrates good quality, good value cooking – and from the moment you step inside, you sense that this is a place that takes both seriously.
The restaurant is the vision of Hendrik, known to friends and regulars as "Henne." His path to his own stove is anything but ordinary. After formative years at the legendary Hotel im Wasserturm under Hans Horberth and a stint at the Traube Tonbach in Baiersbronn, Hendrik spent two years leading product development for the globally successful VAPIANO franchise system. That international experience, combined with a deep love for cooking and eating, shaped his style: refined yet accessible, precise yet generous. For him, a happy system – where staff, suppliers, and guests are in balance – is non-negotiable. His daily work revolves around creating a young, urban, modern restaurant feeling that is straightforward and full of joy.
The cuisine is seasonal and international – not tied to one tradition, but drawing from a broad repertoire to highlight the best ingredients at their peak. The menu changes with the market, and the kitchen aims to satisfy both the seasoned gourmand and the uncomplicated diner. The wine list, as the name suggests, is a core part of the experience, with a thoughtful selection that complements the food.
The atmosphere is relaxed and contemporary, with outdoor seating available for those who want to enjoy Cologne's urban pulse. HENNE.Weinbar is open Monday through Saturday, from noon until midnight – a spot for a long lunch, an early dinner, or a late glass of wine with something good to eat. It is a place where the chef's personality and skill come through in every dish, without fuss or pretence.
