The story
In the heart of Cologne’s Kwartier Latäng, La Société brings modern French cuisine to a space that feels both stylish and welcoming. The half-open kitchen and curved marble bar set the stage for a dining experience that balances precision with ease. The restaurant’s own description – “star cuisine without stiff etiquette” – captures the spirit: fine dining that is warm, honest, and lively.
Chef Leon Hofmockel has led the kitchen since 2021. His cooking bridges French classicism and contemporary ideas, with an emphasis on clear flavours and seasonal produce. The team works with selected producers, crafting dishes that are precise yet light. The current tasting menu – available as a degustation – changes with the seasons and the chef’s curiosity. A La Société Bistro serves lunch from 12 to 15 hours, offering a more casual entry point.
The restaurant’s quality has been recognised with a Michelin star and three red toques in Gault Millau, reflecting consistent high-level cooking in a relaxed setting.
The wine list is a serious affair: around 400 positions, from young winemaking talents to international classics. A carefully curated wine pairing accompanies the menu, alongside a house-made non-alcoholic pairing that is equally creative and harmonious.
