The story
Das Obers sits quietly on Gerner Strasse in Munich's Nymphenburg district, serving food that draws inspiration from the Alpine region "somewhere between Austria and France." The restaurant itself describes its approach as "ganz ohne Attitüde"—entirely without attitude—and that directness carries through every course.
The kitchen follows South Tyrolean cuisine with a clarity that lets local and imported Alpine ingredients speak for themselves. The restaurant keeps its dining room intentionally small, and asks guests to leave pets at home (though goldfish and parrots, they note with a wink, are welcome exceptions).
A Michelin Recommended award for 2026 recognised the cooking at Das Obers, a nod to chefs who balance traditional South Tyrolean flavours with precise technique. The atmosphere remains unpretentious: warm lighting, attentive service, and tables spaced so conversation never competes with the kitchen.
Outdoor seating is available when weather allows, extending the dining room into the quiet street. Lunch is served Friday and Saturday, dinner from Wednesday to Saturday evening. The restaurant does not accept reservations through a third-party system; guests call directly to book.
Das Obers feels like a neighbourhood place that happens to earn Michelin's attention—the kind of restaurant where the cooking is serious but the mood stays relaxed, and where South Tyrolean cuisine finds a natural home in Munich.
