The story
In Rheine, the Beesten family has been welcoming guests since 1906. Now in its fourth generation, this traditional inn is run by Christoph and Elisabeth Beesten, who took over the family business in 1995. Their approach is clear: combine excellent cuisine with a carefully selected wine list to meet the highest expectations. The restaurant's commitment to quality has earned it a recommendation from the Michelin guide.
The kitchen at Beesten focuses on fresh, seasonal dishes that draw from both German and French culinary traditions. The menu changes weekly, offering a five-course selection that might include starters like beef carpaccio marinated with balsamic vinegar and olive oil, or a creamy parsnip soup with pumpkin seed oil and a fried prawn. Main courses range from sesame-crusted salmon on vermouth sauce to duck breast with cassis sauce. Desserts, such as an almond cream with chocolate mousse and mandarin sorbet, round out the meal. Guests can also choose a wine pairing for each course.
The ambiance is described as stylish yet relaxed – a place where tradition feels alive. The restaurant offers indoor dining as well as a beer garden under old chestnut trees for warmer weather. Christoph Beesten trained as a butcher and chef, working at notable establishments in Düsseldorf, Switzerland, and Germany before returning to Rheine. Elisabeth Beesten, trained in hotel management, brings her expertise to the front of house, together creating an experience that balances elegance with genuine hospitality.
