The story
On the banks of the Moselle in Trier, Bagatelle brings a clear philosophy to the plate: regional products of the highest quality, transformed with international creativity and personal inspiration. The kitchen, led by Chef de Cuisine Gerald Schöberl, is built on a foundation of rigorous training—from the Michelin-starred Straub’s Löwe in Leingarten to the Relais & Château Hotel Landhaus Stricker on Sylt, and five and a half years at Victor’s Fine Dining by Christian Bau in Perl. Now, in his own kitchen, Schöberl gives his creativity free rein.
The result is a refined French cuisine that respects the land while reaching beyond it. Locally sourced vegetables, meat, and poultry are delivered daily by suppliers the team knows personally. Alongside these, the kitchen also works with lobster, oysters, and sea fish, bringing a touch of the coast to the river.
Dinner at Bagatelle unfolds as a tasting menu of four to seven courses, with prices starting at 155 euros for four courses and reaching 215 euros for the full seven-course experience. A recent menu showcases the kitchen’s precision: Hamachi with radish, cress, and tobiko caviar; Yellowfin tuna with a surprising ice of Dijon mustard, egg yolk, and capers; a scallop with glazed celery, truffle foam, and Piedmont hazelnut; Skrei cod wrapped in nori, served with a sauerkraut beurre blanc and kale; and salt-marsh lamb with barberry jus, green beans, and hummus. A classic crème brûlée with Tahitian vanilla, blood orange, and coconut closes the meal, with a selection of raw-milk cheeses as an alternative. A curated wine pairing, drawing on the great estates of the Mosel, Saar, and beyond, is available for an additional 75 to 120 euros.
This commitment to high-quality cooking has earned Bagatelle a Michelin star—a recognition that reflects the kitchen’s consistent ambition. The dining room is open for dinner from Wednesday through Saturday, with additional lunch service on Friday and Sunday. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible and offers outdoor seating along the river, making it a welcoming destination for a special evening in Trier.
