The story
In the quiet town of Werdohl, Thuns Dorfkrug has earned a Michelin recommendation for its refined French and international cuisine. The restaurant, part of a small hotel run by the Thun family, combines a warm, welcoming atmosphere with a serious commitment to culinary craft.
Chef Martin Thun brings deep expertise to the kitchen, shaped by years in the wine trade and a stint as a sommelier at the legendary “Ente vom Lehel” in Wiesbaden. His passion for pairing food and wine is evident in every detail, from the carefully curated European wine list—praised by Der Feinschmecker for its exceptional value—to the seasonal menus that highlight the best of each moment.
The dining room is elegant yet comfortable, with dark Wengé and cherry wood furniture, soft fabric lamps, and a bar where guests can enjoy a simpler, hearty meal. In warmer months, the garden terrace opens for al fresco dining. For private celebrations, the entire restaurant can be reserved, accommodating groups of 30 or more with personalized menus—no standard packages, just bespoke arrangements tailored to each guest’s wishes.
Seasonal events are a highlight here. The annual Karfreitag fish buffet features a glass of house-made “Fraenzi mit Rhabarber” sparkling wine, followed by refined starters like a wild garlic soup with scallops, a buffet of fish and seafood, and a surprise dessert. For Mother’s Day, a small menu begins with an asparagus-Riesling soup, offers five main course choices, and ends with a dessert—each table adorned with a fresh spring bouquet for guests to take home.
Thuns Dorfkrug is a place where tradition and creativity meet, and where every meal is treated as a special occasion.
