The story
In the heart of Cagliari, ChiaroScuro is the personal vision of Chef Marina Ravarotto. Born in Nuoro in 1981, her passion for cooking began in her grandmother's and mother's kitchens, where the aromas and atmosphere of family preparations felt magical. After training under several of Sardinia's most respected chefs, including Mario Tirotto, Roberto Petza, and Stefano Deidda, she opened her own restaurant in December 2017. For her, ChiaroScuro is "Casa"—a place to express her creativity freely.
The cuisine is a journey through Chef Ravarotto's native Barbagia, a rugged inland region of Sardinia. Her menu balances memory and research, simplicity and refinement. Classic dishes like Filindeu and Pane Frattau appear alongside more innovative creations, all built on local ingredients from producers who preserve the island's identity. A recent addition to every chapter is an "omaggio al Golfo degli Angeli"—a dish of local fish honoring the city of Cagliari.
The dining room is intimate and essential, with a warm, unpretentious atmosphere where the food takes center stage. The wine list, curated by sommelier Francesca Cadinu, follows the same philosophy, favoring small, organic, and biodynamic Sardinian and Italian producers.
ChiaroScuro’s commitment to authentic, territory-driven Italian cuisine has earned it a place in the Michelin guide, a recognition that speaks to the precision and heart in Chef Ravarotto’s cooking. It is a restaurant that invites you to discover Sardinia through its flavors, with a respectful nod to the past and a confident eye on the present.
