The story
Nida brings a fresh perspective to Japanese dining in the heart of Lucca. Chef Masaki Kuroda and sommelier Sabrina Falconi, partners since 2012, have created a restaurant where Japanese tradition meets contemporary creativity. Kuroda describes his cooking as “emotional cuisine” — each dish is a journey through his taste memories, evoking the comforting flavors of his upbringing while embracing modern techniques and carefully sourced ingredients.
Falconi, a certified AIS sommelier and Kikisakeshi (sake expert), curates a thoughtful selection of sake and biodynamic wines that complement the food. In the kitchen, sous-chef Jessica Galantuomini has been a steady presence since 2016, contributing to the restaurant’s consistent quality.
The menu spans ramen, takoyaki, tempura, and sashimi, alongside more elaborate offerings. At lunch, the Teishoku — a traditional Japanese set meal — includes rice, miso soup, and a choice of main, from fried chicken to wagyu beef. The evening Omakase is a 12-course exploration of Kuroda’s cuisine, available with a sake pairing that deepens the experience.
Nida’s approach earned it a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2026, recognizing its good quality and good value. The dining room is intimate and welcoming, with counter seats that bring guests close to the kitchen, and a private room for larger groups. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible and offers takeaway.
In a city known for its medieval walls and culinary traditions, Nida stands out for its quiet confidence and clear vision. It’s a place where the food speaks directly, and the hospitality feels genuine.
