The story
In the heart of Riga, Masa is an art and jazz club that reimagines the salon tradition for the 21st century. Housed in a historic 1881 building designed by architect Victor de Grabe, the space blends eclectic architecture with a contemporary cultural programme. It earned a Michelin Recommended distinction in 2026, a recognition that speaks to the quality of its Modern Cuisine and the singular experience it offers.
Masa was founded by Ksenija Afanasjeva, who launched the project in 2020 and moved to the current premises on Elizabetes iela in February 2023. The interior follows an eclectic philosophy, harmoniously combining styles from three generations. The venue includes an art gallery, event space, bar, and workshop rooms for local craftsmen. The gallery hosts group exhibitions built around socially relevant themes, while the cultural bar serves as a central meeting point for live music, with a programme focused on jazz.
The drink menu reflects Masa’s artistic identity: each cocktail is named after a 19th or 20th century art movement, designed to capture its aesthetic and atmosphere. The bar also offers catering for events, with snacks and full festive tables available from partners. The Michelin recommendation highlights the quality of the Modern Cuisine served here, turning a night of art and music into a complete dining affair.
Masa is more than a restaurant – it’s a platform where contemporary art, live jazz, and thoughtful Modern Cuisine intersect. Whether you come for a concert, an exhibition, or a cocktail named after an art movement, the space invites you to become part of an ongoing dialogue between culture and flavour.
