The story
SMØR Bistro occupies a light-filled space on Krišjāņa Valdemāra iela, where chef Kaspars Barsukovs leads a kitchen that evolves daily. “Every day in the SMØR kitchen, new flavours are born,” the restaurant states — a promise of spontaneity grounded in respect for seasonal local produce. The cuisine is a natural blend of Scandinavian and French influences, thoughtful and balanced, never fussy.
The restaurant’s recognition came early: a Bib Gourmand from Michelin in 2026, awarded for good quality, good value cooking, alongside a local “Opening of the Year” award. These honours reflect a philosophy that prizes both craftsmanship and sincerity.
Chef Barsukovs works with precision and passion, letting each plate tell a story of texture, taste, and emotion. The menu is never static, changing with the seasons to highlight the best Latvian ingredients. The result is a dining experience that feels both personal and purposeful — creative without pretence, refined yet approachable.
SMØR is also the official ambassador of Champagne de Venoge in Latvia, offering guests a curated selection of champagne that complements the food and adds a celebratory touch to any meal.
Beyond the daily service, SMØR Bistro is designed for events. The entire restaurant accommodates up to 80 guests, while a separate private room hosts up to 40 people. Whether it’s a corporate dinner, birthday, wedding, or a quiet evening with friends, the team tailors each occasion individually — with options for DJs, live musicians, and custom accents. Outdoor seating is also available when the weather allows.
