The story

Comal | Cabo San Lucas – Oceanfront Mexican Dining at Chileno Bay

Contemporary Mexican on the Sea of Cortez

At Chileno Bay Resort & Residences, Comal reimagines regional Mexican cooking with a light, seafood-forward approach. The kitchen’s “innovative takes on regional flavors” play out in dishes like braised short rib with mole, a selection of the freshest ceviche and crudo prepared at the live-action Raw Bar, and vegetarian doraditas “a la talla” made with hibiscus flower. The menu changes with the seasons, always anchored by the spoils of the Pacific.

The setting is as compelling as the food. Spread across three levels, Comal is an indoor-outdoor space where rough-hewn rock, dark woods, and earthenware plates blend into the hillside. Desert greenery softens the minimalist aesthetic, and the crashing waves of the Sea of Cortez provide a constant backdrop. For the best views, request a table at the edge of the patio near the fire pit – uninterrupted ocean vistas and a little extra privacy. Moody lighting from a wall of flickering candles makes dinner for two especially romantic.

Comal is open for breakfast (7:00 AM to 11:00 AM) and dinner (6:00 PM to 10:30 PM). The bar opens at 5:00 PM with an Aperitivo Hour until 7:00 PM, and the huge fire pit invites lingering late into the evening. The atmosphere is upbeat, refreshing, and contemporary.

This commitment to prime sourcing and refined execution earned Comal a Recommended designation from Forbes Travel Guide, as well as recognition from Michelin, La Liste, and OpenTable’s Best 50 Restaurants in Mexico. It is a restaurant that respects its place – on the edge of the sea, rooted in Baja’s culinary traditions.
