The story

A-Fusion Amsterdam: Bib Gourmand Asian Restaurant on Zeedijk

A-Fusion: Asian dining on Amsterdam's Zeedijk

Since 2003, A-Fusion has been a familiar name in the Asian kitchen, and its Amsterdam location on the lively Zeedijk remains a bustling restaurant. The kitchen specialises in a broad range of Asian dishes, from the freshest sushi to fragrant grilled satés. The philosophy is straightforward: classic dishes are given a distinctive A-Fusion signature, creating a dining experience that is both familiar and surprising.

The restaurant's commitment to quality and value has been recognised with a Michelin Bib Gourmand award, a mark of good quality, good value cooking. This recognition fits naturally with A-Fusion's approach: serving excellent food in a lively, unpretentious setting.

A network of locations

A-Fusion has grown to six locations across the Netherlands, including Amsterdam, Loosdrecht, Naarden, Volendam, and Baarn. While each location shares the same dedication to Asian cuisine, the Amsterdam Zeedijk address is the original and remains a vibrant spot in the city centre. The restaurant offers counter dining, as well as takeaway and delivery options for those who want to enjoy the food at home.

Omakase by Li-Li

Beyond the regular menu, A-Fusion introduces a special weekend omakase lunch concept at its Loosdrecht location. Chef Li-Li, described as a talented partner of the restaurant, presents a five-course menu prepared before guests' eyes. The omakase experience, which means "I leave it to the chef," is a carefully curated journey through Asian flavours, accompanied by selected wines and bubbles. Dishes such as ceviche, Hong Kong spareribs, and panna cotta are mentioned as part of her repertoire. Reservations are essential for this exclusive weekend lunch.

With locations in Amsterdam, Volendam, Naarden, Baarn, and Loosdrecht, A-Fusion, owned by hostess Wah Wah Lin, can rightfully be called a major draw. And it’s no surprise, as its Oriental fusion cuisine, featuring Chinese, Japanese, Thai, and Korean dishes, is of exceptional quality. The narrow, long dining room, located on the Zeedijk, is decorated in a modern Asian style and is packed with both local and international guests. Sushi is prepared right at the entrance, while further inside you’ll find a grill station, a dim sum kitchen, and a wok kitchen. Sharing plates is customary, but entirely optional; if you’d rather finish your own portion completely, no one will mind. The menu features starters, salads, and main courses. For the aperitif, we treat ourselves to sushi comprising a salmon roll with green curry and nigiri topped with ribeye and foie gras. Also delicious: Padrón peppers in shoyu style, grilled and served in an umami sauce with a touch of yuzu. This is followed by roasted, tender lamb chops with sake truffle sauce and red chili peppers. What a feast. We toast to all this excellence with a cold Tsingtao beer. The service is seamless and extremely attentive. And the bill is almost too modest for the quality provided. Pure class.

A modern Asian-style canal house on the Zeedijk in the heart of Amsterdam, right next to the red-light district. A-Fusion – as the name suggests – puts fusion cuisine front and center, with a menu brimming with both small and substantial Eastern delicacies such as sushi, dumplings, bao buns, and noodle soups, alongside fish and meat dishes like grilled satay, plus vegetarian surprises. Shared dining is recommended. The place is pleasantly busy with guests from home and abroad. Tourists seem to find their way here effortlessly, judging by the buzz of numerous languages surrounding us. Paired with a Tsingtao beer, we sample impeccably fresh nigiri sushi featuring salmon, tuna, and sea bass. We continue with Vietnamese spring rolls stuffed with chicken, lettuce, and mint. The grilled tenderloin beef couldn't be more tender and comes accompanied by a spicy Korean BBQ sauce. A seaweed salad rounds out the meal. Meanwhile, owners Ronnie and Wah Wah Lin have rolled out their winning formula to nearby locations such as Loosdrecht, Naarden, Volendam, and Baarn. It can hardly fail to be successful. Especially when we receive the bill. Such high quality at such a modest price deserves applause.

An indispensable fixture in the heart of Amsterdam. Located in Chinatown, with the Red Light District just around the corner. Owner Wah Wah Lin has been serving the best of Asian cuisine here for years, and the modern, warmly decorated dining room is consistently packed with enthusiasts from home and abroad. In the center of the dining room, chefs work intently on hot dishes at the counter. The sushi kitchen is located a bit further back. Shared dining is promoted on the menu, and the wide array of choices lends itself perfectly to this concept. We can indicate our preferences on an order form. The wine list features pleasantly priced selections, with a few standout bottles such as a Meursault. We start with a refreshing Tsingtao beer and sample crisp-fresh salmon and tuna sashimi, a California roll with spicy tuna and cucumber, Japanese dumplings (gyoza) with well-seasoned minced meat filling, and pancakes with tender Peking duck. Delicious, flavorful, and all incredibly fresh. The second round brings juicy charcoal-grilled chicken in kecap sauce, followed by a small tabletop grill featuring buttery-soft, sizzling beef fillet prepared Korean-style, drizzled with a bold barbecue sauce. Amazing! A packaged piece of nougat accompanies the coffee. That, however, was somewhat less impressive. Kudos to the service staff, who work quickly, quietly, and professionally. A-Fusion is definitely a keeper.

Located in Chinatown, right in the heart of central Amsterdam, next to the red-light district. A-Fusion by Wah Wah Lin is situated in a narrow alleyway, and the Asian-themed interior features beautiful drawings and paintings on the walls. Here you experience a blend of different Eastern cuisines. Rather than ordering starters or main courses, you actually order various dishes that you share as a group. We start with crisp-fresh salmon and tuna sashimi, tender Peking duck with pancakes and hoisin sauce, ebi sushi rolls, and Thai pastry rolls with red curry, chicken, and tom yum sauce. What amazing starters! The young and professional staff are well-coordinated, keep track of everything, and maintain the perfect pace. The wine list features affordably priced bottles, though the selection by the glass is limited. The Spanish Verdejo from Jose Galo in the Rueda region is an excellent companion to the intense Eastern flavors thanks to its tropical fruit notes and a hint of sweetness. We continue with large prawns in Singapore curry with coriander and coconut, butter-soft grilled beef tenderloin in Korean barbecue sauce, and tender charcoal-grilled chicken. The quality is top-notch, and the bill for what's served is more than fair. No wonder it's always busy here. A great spot!

At the end of Zeedijk, hard to miss given the enormous temple, is the Eastern restaurant A-Fusion by Wah Wah Lin. As we walk past, we see a chef already busily preparing sushi. We're looking forward to it. Here you'll find a wide selection of small dishes from Japanese, Chinese, and Thai cuisine, which you can either share or keep to yourselves with your table companions. The quality is impeccable, offering an exemplary price-to-quality ratio. The place is packed with a lively young crowd, including many international tourists. Service is prompt, skilled, and delivered with clear explanations by a young, knowledgeable team. From the extensive menu, we choose super-fresh, thinly sliced scallop sashimi with sesame dressing. Next comes perfectly grilled goat satay with sweet soy sauce. Then, beautifully crispy fried Szechuan soft-shell crab, tender inside with a delightful spicy kick. Larb gai is Thai minced chicken with cilantro and lemongrass, served on a lettuce leaf. Flawless in flavor; we nearly lick our fingers clean. The Portuguese white Esporao Alandra Blanco stands up well to all the complex flavors. Craftsmanship is what's on display here. All praise to this gem in the capital.

Hidden on the Zeedijk: A-Fusion. Tucked away in a beautiful, sleek, and atmospheric narrow street owned by proprietor and hostess Wah Wah Lin, Asian fusion cuisine has been thriving here for years. This is highly appreciated by numerous guests—both local and regional, and even international—as the place is almost always packed. An open secret is that fellow chefs also love to drop by for a satisfying meal. This is entirely down to the quality of the food, which is incredibly fresh and bursting with flavor. The menu is extensive, offering small and large dishes, sides, soups, salads, vegetarian selections, and plenty of delicious sushi. The drinks list features beers, Japanese sake and plum wine, liqueurs, whiskies, and three types of house wine: white, red, and rosé. Due to the consistently busy atmosphere, booking in advance is highly recommended. Especially since you receive a surprisingly modest bill for such exceptional quality. Very un-Amsterdam-like.

Located at the end of Zeedijk, featuring a tasteful and sleek interior and no fewer than three kitchens. The hot kitchen is situated in the center of the restaurant, the sushi station is in the entrance where you can watch the chefs at work, and there is also a dedicated production kitchen behind the scenes. For years, A-Fusion has been a "secret" favorite among many fellow chef-cooks. The reason? The ingredients are incredibly fresh and bursting with flavor. Service is prompt and professional, delivered by a young and knowledgeable team. There is a wide selection of Asian small plates and several complete dishes. Owner and hostess Wah Wah Lin ensures everything runs smoothly, while Che Qin Lin oversees the kitchen. The signature sushi rolls with marinated and seared tuna, tobiko, avocado, spicy Japanese mayonnaise, and crispy onions fly off the counter like hotcakes. Just like the beautifully crispy roasted Peking duck served in thin pancakes with hoisin sauce. Jumbo steamed oysters in a spicy-sweet tau siu sauce are cooked to perfection. Vegetarian guests will also find plenty of options. Price-to-quality ratio: excellent. A truly delightful place!

In a narrow alley in the heart of 'Chinatown', A-Fusion serves authentic Asian cuisine. The space is rustic, adorned with warm tones and meticulous attention to detail. While there are now branches in Volendam and Naarden, Amsterdam boasts the most extensive menu. You simply mark your choices on a list to place your order. Shared dining seems to have been invented here, and we happily sample super-fresh grilled tuna, wonderful steamed dim sum with coriander and shrimp, steamed sea bass with ginger and broccoli, and crispy monkfish. The dim sum's rice wrapper is paper-thin with a generous filling. A special mention goes to the crispy duck with spring onions and hoisin, served in a light bun that has been lightly pan-fried in a wok, giving it a perfectly crisp exterior. Heavenly! The staff is friendly and attentive, though they could offer more details about the dishes and their accompanying sauces. After a short break, we move on to fine vermicelli noodles, classic chicken with seasonal vegetables in a mild curry sauce, and stir-fried beef tenderloin glazed with teriyaki sauce. Beautiful dishes with subtle flavors. We pair them with jasmine tea. To finish, a solid hot espresso with a piece of nougat. And a very reasonable bill. A lovely spot.
