The story

Amí Bistro – Modern French Gastronomic Bistro in Breda | Michelin Recommended 2026

Amí Bistro – Breda

Since opening its doors in July 2024, Amí Bistro has quickly become a beloved spot in the heart of Breda. This gastronomic bistro, recognised with a Michelin Recommended award for 2026, balances ambition with an unpretentious warmth. The guiding spirit is Malou Hagenaars, a sommelier who won the Michelin Sommelier Award in 2022. With her dedicated team, she creates an experience where flavour, atmosphere and hospitality come together seamlessly.

The setting is a relaxed yet refined space where you can see straight into the open kitchen. A cosy courtyard garden invites spontaneous lunches, dinners or drinks. The à la carte menu is direct and confident, built on fresh ingredients and properly made sauces. Dishes range from a classic steak tartare with Comté to a Balfego tuna with aguachile and horseradish, or a “special” Bresse chicken with smoked eel and foie gras. The wine list, overseen by sommelier Jasper Verhagen, offers around fifty wines by the glass, carefully chosen to pair with the Modern French cooking.

Whether you come for a quick bite at the bar or a full evening, Amí Bistro is a place to be seen and spoiled – without the fuss.

A charming and cozy establishment in the heart of Breda. The centuries-old building has been beautifully modernized, as has the surprising interior, which features a palette of neutral tones. Owner Malou Hagenaars sits at the heart of it all, boasting extensive experience in top-tier hospitality. This shows not only in her role as hostess but also in the exceptional culinary standard. They call it a 'gastronomic bistro,' and the label fully justifies itself. The menu offers a generous à la carte selection. But first, we indulge in some 'bites' with the aperitif: slices of dried Rubia Gallega beef and oysters with Thai soy sauce and citrus. Not to be missed is a delightful amuse-bouche of beetroot, citrus, and goat yogurt. Our starter, served by the gracious host and 2025 finalist for the National Hennessy Hospitality Award, Ynze Peters, comprises langoustine tartare, lightly cooked langoustine tail, kataifi, and a buttermilk and verbena dressing. Sommelier Jasper Verhagen selects a perfectly paired Grüner Veltliner Federspiel from Knoll in Wachau from their extensive open-wine list, renowned for its exotic label. The main course is equally delicious: linguine tossed with lobster chunks, scallops, and a lobster bisque sauce. The accompanying white Crozes-Hermitage from Domaine des Entrefaux goes down like the proverbial angel on your tongue. Meanwhile, our dining companion savors beef tenderloin with spinach and pepper sauce—a straightforward yet outstanding dish, perfectly complemented by a glass of Syrah from Australian producer Spinifex. The wine pairing for the dark Valrhona chocolate dessert is another home run: a red vin de liqueur from Greece. In short, this is an unpretentious yet high-quality restaurant where you can also enjoy cocktails with snacks. During summer months, the outdoor terrace provides a lovely spot to linger. All in all, a welcome addition to Breda and to this guide. Welcome to Lekker.
