The story
Since June 2025, Restaurant Chocolat has been welcoming guests to a strikingly different setting: the botanical greenhouse of Chassé Botanique in Breda. The entrance leads through a tropical plant-filled serre, while the restaurant itself is a stylish space where dark chocolate tones set the mood. An outdoor terrace on the Keizerstraat side offers a sunny spot for lunch or dinner. The move marks a fresh chapter for a restaurant that has earned its place in the Michelin guide.
Owner and chef Dorus Clement has been in professional kitchens since he was eighteen. His curiosity and drive for innovation led him to take over Restaurant Chocolat in 2017 – a long-held dream. He leads the kitchen with infectious energy, always searching for surprising flavour combinations. Clement describes his cooking as an international kitchen with refined French and Eastern influences – classic and stylish, yet with a contemporary twist. He is also committed to training young talent, passing on his passion to the next generation.
By day, Chocolat serves a selection of lunch dishes, from a light bite to a full lunch menu. In the evening, the focus shifts to à la carte or a 4- to 7-course Gastro-menu, carefully paired with selected wines. The kitchen works with pure ingredients and a great deal of care, creating dishes that balance richness and finesse. The world cuisine approach brings unexpected accents to the French foundation.
Restaurant Chocolat holds a Michelin Recommended distinction for 2026. The Michelin guide notes: “You enter via the conservatory where tropical plants grow, then immerse yourself in the Chocolat atmosphere. Dorus Clement plays with a rich palette of flavours and introduces exotic seasonings into dishes with French flair.” The restaurant also received 14 points in the Gault&Millau guide, which praised the “idiosyncratic interior in a stylish former barracks” and the pleasant ambiance. These accolades reflect a kitchen that consistently delivers refined gastronomy in a unique setting.
