The story
Restaurant Joann sits in a characteristic building on the edge of Enschede’s centre, where monumental elements are preserved within a contemporary setting. The open kitchen lets you watch the team at work, while the dining room invites you to relax and enjoy a full evening. The guiding philosophy is simple: “The feeling of coming home and still enjoying gastronomy.”
In October 2024, Joann received its first Michelin star, a milestone the team celebrates with pride. The same year, Mandy Kwekkeboom-Overbeek was named Hostess of the Year by Gault&Millau. Together with her husband Emiel Kwekkeboom, they lead a young, ambitious team that values hospitality as much as the food. The seamless collaboration between kitchen and service is central to the experience.
The menu changes regularly, driven by seasonality, availability, and a commitment to quality. The modern cuisine is defined by pure flavors, simplicity, and a respect for ingredients. Guests can choose from 5 to 8 courses, with the Joann Experience Menu offering a complete evening including aperitif, amuses, wines, cheese, coffee, and friandises. For those seeking extra luxury, the Touch of Gold menu adds premium ingredients. The Royal Green menu is a fully vegetarian option, using local produce from Enschede Groeituin.
Sommelier René Dommerholt carefully selects wines to pair with each course. For non-alcoholic alternatives, Maître Femke Gröniger creates inventive juices, cocktails, and infusions. The team’s dedication to detail ensures every element of the meal complements the next, making a dinner at Joann feel both effortless and special.
