The story
In the fortified town of Woudrichem, just inside the old city walls, Kruiden & Jasmijn makes a compelling case for unhurried, seasonal French fine dining. The restaurant opened in 2003, transforming a former home into a welcoming space where the focus is squarely on the plate and the glass.
Chef Patrick leads the kitchen, drawing on years of experience at notable Dutch restaurants to create menus that change with the seasons. There is no à la carte here — instead, guests choose from surprise menus of three to seven courses, letting the chef’s imagination guide the evening. Expect seasonal specialities like asparagus, fresh zander from the Waal river, and, from late March through mid-July, Zeeland lobster, which gets its own dedicated three-course menu.
The kitchen’s care is matched by the work of sommelier Michael, whose genuine passion for wine informs a carefully curated list designed to complement each dish. In warmer months, the experience moves outdoors to a sculpture garden tucked against the old arsenal wall — a sheltered spot that feels a world away from the everyday.
This attention to craft and atmosphere has earned Kruiden & Jasmijn a Michelin Recommended distinction. It is a quiet, confident place to enjoy refined French cuisine in the heart of the Netherlands.
