The story
On the southern edge of Maastricht, just a short walk from the city centre, Prix de Rome occupies a monumental building with a modern, warm interior. The restaurant recently underwent a full renovation, resulting in a cosy space with comfortable seating, elegant lighting, and a large terrace for enjoying meals and wines outdoors in good weather.
Chef Wouter Houten and his team cook with passion and dedication, maintaining a consistently high level of quality while keeping a sharp eye on value. The kitchen style is best described as modern French, working exclusively with fresh ingredients from the best, often regional, suppliers. This commitment to accessible excellence earned Prix de Rome a Michelin Bib Gourmand, an award that celebrates good quality, good value cooking.
Guests choose from a 3-, 4-, or 5-course menu, where each course brings a surprise of refined flavours. For those who prefer to select their own dishes, an à la carte menu features the restaurant's classic plates. The evening winds down at 23:00, when the team presents the bill and closes the doors, ready to welcome the next day's guests with the same fresh energy. Prix de Rome is closed on Monday and Tuesday, and open Wednesday through Saturday evenings, with Sunday lunch and dinner service as well.
