The story
In the small village of Neck, just outside Purmerend, Restaurant MARIO has been a family affair since 1967. What began as a dream for the Uva family is now a legacy carried by the third generation: Emilio, Daphne, and Sil. Together, they bring a wide range of experience and passion to everything they do, keeping the spirit of authentic Italian hospitality alive.
The heart of the experience at MARIO is a seasonal tasting menu of five, six, or seven courses. Each evening is a new culinary adventure, built around only the freshest, day-fresh ingredients. The kitchen lets the seasons guide the composition, ensuring that every plate is a reflection of the moment. A carefully selected wine pairing, chosen by the team and sommelier Henri de Vries, completes the journey.
The restaurant’s commitment to quality has earned it a place in the Michelin guide, a natural recognition of the family’s dedication. The atmosphere is warm and refined, with a small terrace where hotel guests can enjoy an aperitif in good weather. For those who wish to linger, MARIO also offers three rooms and a suite, available exclusively in combination with a five-, six-, or seven-course dinner.
The story of MARIO is written in the people who run it. Emilio grew up in the family business, charming guests from a young age. Daphne started washing dishes here as a teenager before studying hotel management. Sil began as a student in the kitchen, later honing his craft at acclaimed restaurants like Hisa Franko in Slovenia and 212 in Amsterdam. Together, they represent a deep, lived-in love for Italian cuisine and genuine hospitality.
