The story
Restaurant Lagrange occupies a former barn in the historic centre of Buren, a town near Tiel in the Dutch province of Gelderland. The name itself is a nod to the French language – “lagrange” means barn – and a wink toward the French cuisine that defines the kitchen. Today, that old agricultural building has been reimagined as a contemporary, atmospheric fine‑dining destination.
The kitchen works with honest produce, sourcing ingredients from the surrounding region as much as possible and letting the seasons dictate the menu. Every six weeks, a new tasting menu is composed, with optional supplementary dishes. The approach is rooted in modern French cuisine, but the setting is deliberately unforced. As the restaurant puts it, fine dining in an unpretentious atmosphere, with particular attention to the wine selection.
A midweek special offers a three‑course surprise menu – including a glass of bubbles (alcohol‑free possible) and coffee with friandises – for €70 on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings. Lunch and dinner are served from Tuesday through Saturday, and the bar invites guests to stop in for a drink and small bites.
Lagrange’s commitment to quality and consistent execution has earned it a place in the Michelin Guide Netherlands, with a Recommended distinction for 2026. The recognition reflects the restaurant’s ability to deliver a polished dining experience without stiffness.
The restaurant can host private parties and business events, and a thoughtful after‑dinner service, in collaboration with a local chauffeur company, means guests can enjoy the full wine pairing without worrying about the drive home. In summer, the terrace opens onto the historic streets of Buren.
Whether for a leisurely lunch, an evening of wine and tasting menus, or a celebratory gathering, Lagrange offers a warm, concrete take on modern French fine dining in the heart of Gelderland.
