The story
Since opening its doors in June 2021, Restaurant 273 has brought a refined yet welcoming energy to Utrecht’s Oudegracht. Housed in a beautiful monumental building, the restaurant’s interior pairs deep green, copper, marble and concrete textures to create a warm, luxurious atmosphere – a place where fine dining feels unpretentious.
The kitchen is led by chef-owner Tommy den Hartog, whose cooking style draws on international flavors and modern techniques, all rooted in a classic foundation. The result is a balanced, creative take on International cuisine that prioritises harmony over novelty. The kitchen team works closely with a dedicated sous chef, ensuring every plate meets a high standard of precision and taste.
The restaurant offers several distinct settings. Guests can choose linen-covered tables in the main dining room, or the Chef’s Table – a white marble counter facing the open kitchen, where you can watch the team at work. High tables opposite the kitchen combine the best of both worlds, offering a clear view without the full counter experience. A gastronomic 7- or 8-course chef’s menu is available at the Chef’s Table, with an optional wine pairing from an extensive wine list.
This attention to detail and consistent quality has earned Restaurant 273 a Michelin Recommended distinction, a recognition that aligns with the restaurant’s commitment to excellence. The team’s passion for International cuisine and their ability to adapt dietary requirements (vegetarian menus are possible, though vegan is not served) make it a versatile choice for a special evening.
The dress code is smart casual, and the service is described as personal and professional. With its open kitchen, varied seating, and a chef who balances creativity with balance, Restaurant 273 has quickly become a fixture in Utrecht’s fine dining scene. It’s an experience built on substance, not flash – and that is precisely what makes it memorable.
