The story
Casa Nova has anchored itself in Upper Dorćol since 2003, evolving from its original 1999 founding in Slavia into a fusion of Italian and Mediterranean cooking. The kitchen sources produce like eggs and vegetables from the Zasavica nature reserve, ensuring the foundation of every plate rests on verified local quality. This commitment to provenance earned the restaurant a 13.5 rating from Gault&Millau, which praises the imaginative interpretations that refine classic Italian dishes.
The menu balances tradition with creative touches, highlighted by foie gras served on shaped breadcrumbs with onion jam and pine nuts. Painter's cappelletti feature pasta dyed in four natural vegetable colors wrapping a ricotta and spinach filling, finished with a butter and sage sauce. For dessert, the fagotini di mele offers caramelized apple, raisins, and pine nuts inside pancake pads, drizzled with caramel and served with vanilla ice cream.
Inside, the dining space blends Tuscan inspiration with urban charm, featuring frescoed walls inspired by Botticelli alongside an iron wine cellar. A small gallery area provides a quiet corner with discreet lighting, while the terrace invites guests to linger outdoors. This arrangement creates a soulful ambience supported by a wine list that highlights domestic labels alongside international selections.
