The story
Otočec Castle provides a historic backdrop for the restaurant. Diners can choose between the elegant main dining room, the cosy Hunting Room with a crackling fireplace, the panoramic café, or a terrace within the castle walls. The recommended dress code is casual chic, adding to the refined yet welcoming atmosphere.
The kitchen’s philosophy centres on fresh, seasonal ingredients. Many vegetables and herbs come from the castle’s own organic garden; the rest are sourced from nearby farms committed to certified organic and sustainable practices. Nature serves as the greatest inspiration, and dishes are crafted to reflect its harmony and beauty. The restaurant is a proud member of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, underscoring its dedication to quality.
The restaurant’s commitment to natural, local, and flavourful cuisine has earned it a place in the Michelin Guide as a Recommended restaurant. Inspectors were impressed by the freshness of the ingredients, the local specialties, and the restaurant’s charming appeal. The hotel itself also received a Michelin Key award, one of only five in Slovenia.
The heart of the offering is the seasonal tasting menu, available in four-course (72 EUR) or six-course (92 EUR) versions. Recent menus have included dishes such as red beet carpaccio, risotto with smoked trout and pumpkin, pulled duck leg, and white chocolate mousse. The six-course menu adds tuna tartare and grilled sea bass. Wine pairings are available with four or six glasses (30 or 40 EUR). An à la carte selection is also offered, featuring the same local produce in hot and cold starters, main courses, and desserts.
The castle’s private rooms provide an elegant setting for business lunches and dinners. For a more casual visit, the panoramic café, with its atrium, is a beloved retreat for coffee, drinks, and desserts, with an outdoor terrace open during summer.
