The story
At Els Casals, everything begins with the earth. The restaurant, set within a restored 18th-century farmhouse near Berga, practices a deeply seasonal style of Catalan contemporary cuisine. Most of the ingredients—vegetables, eggs, dairy, poultry, pork, mushrooms, and truffles—come from the property’s own farm or nearby producers. This connection to the source shapes every dish, with the kitchen treating each element with respect so its full quality can be appreciated.
The two tasting menus, Petit Menú and La Terra, reflect this philosophy. Petit Menú is a selection of the best of what has just arrived, comprising two appetizers, four courses, and two desserts. La Terra goes deeper into the estate’s bounty. Wine pairings are available for both.
The recognition of a Michelin star speaks to the consistency and integrity of what Els Casals achieves. It is not a surprise: the kitchen’s commitment to the immediacy of the harvest, and the skill in letting those pure flavors lead, has earned this quiet countryside address a place among Spain’s notable tables.
Els Casals also offers nine guest rooms in the same farmhouse. Like the cooking, the style is rustic, comfortable, and simple—in keeping with the fields and forests that surround it. Staying overnight lets you experience the full rhythm of the estate, from a long lunch to a peaceful evening in the Berguedà countryside.
