The story
On the Rambla Jaume I in Cambrils, just steps from the port, Can Bosch has been a fixture of the town’s dining scene since 1969, when Joan Baptista Bosch and Lourdes Font opened a humble fisherman’s bar. What began as a simple spot for those returning from the sea has evolved into a family-run restaurant that has held a Michelin star since 1984—a testament to its unwavering commitment to quality.
The kitchen is now led by the next generation, with Arnau Bosch at the helm. The philosophy is direct: market-driven, seasonal Catalan cooking, with the sea as its guiding principle. “La mar al plat”—the sea on the plate—is how the restaurant describes its approach. Produce is sourced largely from the surrounding Baix Camp region, and the daily market dictates the menu. This is not a kitchen that imposes a rigid vision; it responds to what is freshest.
Diners can choose from several paths through the menu. The Tasting Menu, at €140 per person, is a journey through the kitchen’s technical range and respect for local ingredients. It might begin with a royale of sea urchin and mantis shrimp with a tartar of Ràpita prawns, move to a ravioli of smoked eel brandade with beurre blanc, and finish with a dish that pays homage to the Catalan suquet and bouillabaisse. A roast suckling goat with a creamy Cambrils cauliflower and romesco mole shows the kitchen’s skill with land as well as sea.
For those seeking a broader view of the restaurant’s repertoire, the Tradition Menu (€83 per person, or €108 with wine) is a carefully composed selection. It includes Can Bosch’s celebrated black rice, served with a soft garlic and oil foam, alongside dishes like grilled octopus with miso-marinated pork jowl and a ravioli of seasonal mushrooms and truffle. A lobster or langoustine menu is also available by advance order, featuring the prized local crustaceans prepared in several ways.
The atmosphere remains that of a family restaurant—professional and attentive, but without stiffness. The dining room is comfortable, the service precise, and the wine list thoughtfully curated. For over fifty years, Can Bosch has been a constant in Cambrils, anchored by tradition and driven by the sea.
