The story
At Arre, the kitchen lives by two words: Huerta y Carbón – garden and charcoal. The name itself is a nod to the arriero’s cry, a shout that drives mules forward and, here, drives a philosophy of bringing local tradition to the table with energy and purpose. In the heart of Castelló de la Plana, this contemporary restaurant earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand for its good quality, good value cooking, and it wears that recognition lightly.
The menus are built around what the land and sea of the surrounding comarcas offer. The Senda (38€) presents a complete table meal that starts with three aperitivos and a starter, then moves to a choice of a torrà – grilled meat finished at the table – or wood-fired rice dishes, daily fish, or an individual meat. The vegetarian Via Verde (38€) follows the same rhythm without meat or fish. For those who want to let the chef decide, the Ramal (56€, four aperitivos and five courses) and the Via Augusta (70€, seven courses) change with the season and the market. Both include a wine pairing option, and the restaurant’s bodega is detailed in El Cuaderno del Sumiller.
Press coverage has called Arre “the cry that brings Castellón’s gastronomic customs closer and empowers them,” and it’s easy to see why. The cooking respects the ingredients – the vegetables, the rice, the charcoal-grilled meats – without fuss. A Bib Gourmand that feels earned, not chased.
