The story
Antoni Rubies describes itself as “arrosseria i cuina de mercat” – a rice restaurant rooted in market cooking. Housed in the former La Barretina space in Artesa de Lleida, just ten minutes from the city of Lleida, it brings the produce of the region to the table with directness and skill.
The kitchen focuses on seafood and rice, evident in menus that change with the season. A recent “Menú Arròs” offered starters like Pernil Duroc 100% with tomato-rubbed bread, followed by a choice of rice dishes. Another menu featured “bacallà esqueixat amb taronja i encurtits escabetxats” – shredded cod with orange and pickles – and “carxofes confitades amb zamburinyes”, artichokes confit with bay scallops. The cooking is unfussy, letting ingredients speak.
The restaurant’s consistent quality and value have earned it a Michelin Bib Gourmand, a recognition that aligns with its philosophy: generous, well-sourced cooking without pretension. Diners can expect a warm, welcoming atmosphere, with outdoor seating for warmer months and private dining options. Takeaway rice dishes are also available.
Whether it’s a weekday executive menu or a festive gathering, Antoni Rubies delivers the straightforward, flavourful food of the Lleida region. The restaurant regularly shares news of wine pairings and gastronomic events through its newsletter, keeping the local community engaged with the seasons.
