The story
In the old quarter of Sant Climent de Llobregat, surrounded by farmland and the quiet rhythm of village life, El Racó has been serving Catalan cuisine for more than five decades. The restaurant opened in 1972, founded by Emili and Maria. Today, the family legacy continues with siblings Eliane, who runs the dining room, and Gérard Solís Tugas, who heads the kitchen. As Gérard puts it, behind them is the support of the entire family and a small, dedicated team.
The kitchen was renovated in 2000 to improve service and expand the dining space, while maintaining the warm, simple, and personal atmosphere that has always defined the place. In 2023, a new entrance and a terrace were added, along with a cellar space – all designed to enhance the experience for guests.
El Racó’s cooking stays close to the land. The menu changes with the seasons and the weekly offerings reflect local traditions: escudella (a hearty Catalan stew), grilled botifarra sausage, roasted chicken, and fresh fish. The weekly menu, priced at €13.20 (including bread and water), is a snapshot of the region’s everyday flavours. The restaurant also offers a cellar with around 250 wine references, temperature-controlled for proper service.
For those looking to explore further, the à la carte and special menus (such as the €85 tasting option) showcase the kitchen’s depth. The emphasis is always on honest, well-executed dishes rooted in Catalan cooking.
El Racó’s consistent quality and family-run warmth earned it a place in the Michelin guide’s Recommended list for 2026. It is a recognition that matches the restaurant’s character: unpretentious, welcoming, and deeply connected to its surroundings. Whether you sit indoors with air conditioning or on the outdoor terrace, the experience is one of genuine hospitality and food that speaks of the local terroir.
