The story
Le Restaurant sits within the historic walls of La Couronne, the second-oldest hotel in Switzerland, on Solothurn’s Hauptgasse. Here, chef Martin Elschner and his team serve classic French cuisine rooted in fresh, regional produce.
The Michelin Bib Gourmand for 2026 recognises the kitchen’s consistency in delivering good quality cooking at a reasonable price – a reflection of the thoughtful sourcing and precise execution that define every plate. The restaurant also holds 14 GaultMillau points, a further mark of its standing in Swiss gastronomy.
Elschner’s menu changes with the seasons, drawing on vegetables, meats and dairy from the surrounding region. At lunch, the offering is uncomplicated and generous; by evening, the focus shifts to a gourmet tasting menu that allows the kitchen to show its full range. A carefully curated wine list, with a strong emphasis on French and Swiss labels, accompanies the meal.
The dining room is part of a carefully restored boutique hotel, where stone walls and warm lighting create an atmosphere that is both refined and welcoming. The bar à vin next door is a more casual spot for a glass and a small plate, while the historic ballroom hosts private dinners and celebrations. Whether it’s a midday meal or a multi-course evening, Le Restaurant delivers classic French cuisine with a clear sense of place.
