The story
Sichuan Impression brings the vibrant flavors of Chengdu—the UNESCO-recognized "City of Gastronomy"—to Alhambra. The restaurant’s name is a direct nod to the poetic "Jin-Cheng" (City of Brocade), inspired by Tang Dynasty poet Du Fu’s famous lines. The founders, born into a family of culinary art, crossed the ocean with a mission: to present the most traditional and authentic Sichuan cuisine to American diners, elevated by quality ingredients and a contemporary style.
The menu is a carefully curated tour through Sichuan’s regional specialties. From the signature Signature Braised Duck to the fiery "Xi-zhi" Wok-Fried Crab with dried chilies and Sichuan peppercorn, the cooking is bold and precise. Standouts include the Boiled Fish with Rattan Pepper, where tender fillets swim in a fragrant, numbing broth, and the Ma-po Tofu, praised by guests from Sichuan as the best in Los Angeles. The "Qiao-jiao" Beef Combination Soup of Leshan is a comforting bowl of beef, tripe, and tendon, served with traditional condiments.
The restaurant’s dedication to authentic Sichuan cuisine has earned it a Michelin Bib Gourmand award, a testament to its good quality and good value cooking. With locations in Alhambra, Tustin, and West Los Angeles, Sichuan Impression offers a welcoming atmosphere where the classics and regional specialties shine. Dishes like the Original Kung-pao Chicken and the Big Mouth Ginger Frog of Zigong showcase the depth and heat of Sichuan cooking, while the School Yard Ice Jelly provides a sweet, cooling finish.
