The story
In downtown Fullerton, Khan Saab Desi Craft Kitchen reimagines the way we experience Indian and Pakistani cuisine. Opened in February 2020, the restaurant was built to challenge expectations of halal dining—pairing heritage flavors with precise, contemporary execution in a space that feels both immersive and elegant. The result is a restaurant that feels confident, expressive, and unmistakably of the moment.
At the helm is Chef-Partner Imran Ali Mookhi, a culinary veteran who trained under Michelin-starred chefs and led kitchens at acclaimed restaurants including Tantra on Sunset, Tamarind of London in Newport Coast, and Tumbi in Santa Monica. His approach balances tradition with innovation, crafting menus that honor the regional cuisines of Pakistan and India while embracing a California sensibility. That commitment to quality has earned Khan Saab a Michelin Bib Gourmand every year since 2021—a recognition of its consistent, good-value cooking.
Khan Saab operates with a 100% halal philosophy, and the restaurant is entirely alcohol-free. The beverage program is a point of pride: crafted mocktails, traditional lassis, and non-alcoholic offerings are developed with the same care as the food, proving that a complete, elevated dining experience needs no compromise.
The menu spans street snacks, signature steaks, kabobs, and curries. Standouts include the Sloppy Khan—wagyu beef keema on gun-powder dusted pav—and the wood-fired bone-in tomahawk steak, served with whole roasted garlic and caramelized onion. The curry section offers classics like butter chicken, lamb rogan josh, and dal bhukara, while the tandoor turns out malai chicken tikka, smoked beef kabob, and Kandahari lamb chops. Desserts like shahi gulab jamun and double ka tukda close the meal on a sweet note.
Khan Saab is more than a restaurant—it’s a celebration of culture, craft, and community, setting a new standard for South Asian dining in Orange County.
