The story
That’s the motto at Little Chango, a casual Hispanic kitchen in the heart of Asheville’s South Slope. The name comes from the chango—the grackle, a small, loud bird known for its voracious appetite across the Americas. The restaurant’s owners see themselves in that bird: people who gravitate toward kitchens, linger at the table long after the meal, and light up at the discovery of a new treat. It’s a spirit that runs through everything they do.
The menu centers on “mounted arepas”—arepas piled high with fillings—alongside other Latin American–inspired dishes. The cooking is straightforward, bold, and meant to be shared. The drink list includes a selection of libations, and staff will happily point you toward a wine pairing.
Little Chango earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2026, a recognition reserved for restaurants that offer good quality cooking at a good value. The award fits: the food is lively, the portions generous, and the setting unpretentious. It’s a place where the conviviality of the grackle meets the craft of a kitchen that knows exactly what it’s doing.
