The story
Staplehouse welcomes guests into a relaxed, light-filled space in the heart of Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward. The restaurant’s leafy garden and covered, heated patio provide al fresco dining year-round, while the cozy interior offers a comfortable counterpoint.
Chef Ryan Smith and Chef Jacob Pollitz drive the menu, which rotates with the seasons and draws from local farms. Their approach to American Contemporary cooking is direct and ingredient-driven, whether it’s a wood-fired pizza, a well-composed sandwich, or a seasonal side. The pastry case turns out a rotating lineup of focaccia, baguettes, and cookies that have earned a loyal following.
Walk in, grab a drink at the bar, and order at the counter from a menu that changes regularly. In addition to pizzas and sandwiches, Staplehouse offers a small market where guests can pick up house-made condiments—like hot sauce and salsa macha—alongside Condor Chocolates and Song Teas. The wine list is a fun, evolving collection meant to be enjoyed on-site or taken away.
Staplehouse has been recognized by Michelin with a Recommended award for 2026, reflecting the care and consistency that define the experience. The restaurant’s backstory, rooted in community resilience, was first celebrated by Bon Appétit as the best new restaurant of 2016. Today, owners Kara Hidinger and Chef Ryan Smith continue to run the place as a welcoming neighborhood spot that honors its origins without resting on them.
