The story
In Atlanta’s Chastain Park neighborhood, The Chastain offers what it calls “sophisticated farm to table cuisine” in a setting that is both refined and relaxed. The restaurant’s American cuisine is rooted in locally grown seasonal ingredients, some harvested from its own onsite culinary garden. The main dining room overlooks this garden, so what arrives on your plate may have been picked just before service.
The team describes their approach as “fundamentally sound cooking,” elevating classic dishes with fresh ingredients and precise technique. Menus change regularly, driven by what is at its peak from the garden and from farm partners. The service is unpretentious, and the atmosphere is comfortable enough for a business lunch yet polished for an upscale dinner.
Executive Chef Christopher Grossman brings a philosophy shaped by his upbringing, where seasonal gardens and trading produce with neighbors was the norm. He believes that great food starts with the soil and the seeds that are sown. His background includes time at The French Laundry in Napa Valley under Thomas Keller, and he previously opened and helmed Atlas at the St. Regis in Atlanta. Executive Pastry Chef Christian Castillo rounds out the kitchen leadership.
The restaurant occupies a historic building that began as a country store on a dusty dirt trail. That tiny grocery, which later became a gas station and then a restaurant called Bill Daly’s Red Barn, now forms the bar area. The current operators took over in 2020, undertaking an extensive renovation that preserved the soul of the building while updating the spaces for a new generation.
The Chastain earned a Michelin Recommended distinction in the 2026 guide, a recognition that speaks to the consistent quality of its cooking and its commitment to sustainability. The restaurant offers several dining experiences: a morning café with coffee and pastries, a full-service lunch, weekend brunch, and a more refined dinner service. A Garden Tasting Menu is also available, showcasing the best of what is in season.
