The story
Since opening in 2017, White Pillars has become a defining restaurant on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Chef-owner Austin Sumrall and his wife Tresse have built a place rooted in local ingredients and genuine Southern hospitality. The restaurant earned a Michelin Recommended distinction in 2026, a recognition that aligns with the national acclaim Sumrall has received, including a James Beard Foundation semi-finalist nomination for Best Chef: South in 2020 and winning the Great American Seafood Cook-off in 2021.
Sumrall’s vision is clear: “meaningful locally-sourced food, good company and an electric atmosphere.” The menu changes almost daily based on what arrives from local farms. Expect Gulf fish, seafood, steak, rabbit, pork, and fresh-made pasta. The kitchen follows farm-to-table and nose-to-tail practices, with seasonal favorites like a Gulf Seafood Tower, Korean BBQ Pork Belly, and various hand-made pastas. Desserts include a Flourless Chocolate Torte with Satsuma-infused ganache and a “Biloxi-Misu” made with Barq’s Root Beer gastrique.
The WP Lounge, housed in the restaurant, features the oldest known bar in Biloxi—a walnut fixture originally from the Chicago Blackstone Hotel. The lounge serves seasonal craft cocktails, an awarded wine program, and an extensive spirits list. The bar opens at 4pm daily, with dinner served from 5:30pm to 9pm.
Everything in the restaurant, from the serving dishes to the hand-crafted farm tables, comes from Mississippi. The Sumralls source produce at local farmers’ markets every Saturday, a practice that defines the restaurant’s American Contemporary cuisine and its deep connection to the Gulf Coast.
