The story
Easy Bistro & Bar has been a Chattanooga mainstay since 2005, when husband-and-wife team Erik and Amanda Niel opened its doors. In May 2020, the restaurant moved to a new space in the West Village, with a reimagined menu and a fresh approach to dining. The result earned Easy a Michelin Recommended distinction, placing it among the region’s most accomplished spots.
Chef Erik Niel, a two-time James Beard Award nominee for Best Chef: Southeast, draws on his Louisiana childhood and classic French training. The menu celebrates ingredients from the Tennessee River Valley, but the philosophy is simple: “Share til it Hurts.” Dishes are served family-style, with small and large plates designed to be passed around the table. A wood-burning oven turns out hearth-roasted seafood and whole fish, while house-made pasta and classic bistro fare round out the offerings. The kitchen favors simplicity without sacrificing flavor.
The raw bar greets guests as they walk in. Oysters arrive daily from the Gulf coast, as well as East and West coast varieties, each with a distinct regional character. A wood-fired hearth also prepares oyster dishes, octopus, and whole fish. The selection changes frequently, keeping the experience fresh.
The bar program matches the food’s ambition. The cocktail menu rotates seasonally, and the wine list is curated to complement the cuisine. Whiskey enthusiasts will find more than 300 bottles, spanning Scotch, Irish, Japanese, and Taiwanese expressions. Whether for a nightcap or a full evening, the bar offers a relaxed yet polished setting.
Easy Bistro also offers a private dining room that can be configured for events from rehearsal dinners to corporate gatherings. Catering brings the same charcuterie, oysters, and whiskey to off-site occasions. Every detail is custom and crafted.
