The story
At Sifr in Chicago, the team behind the acclaimed Indienne brings a distinct vision of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cooking to River North. The restaurant, which earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand for its good quality, good value cooking, is built around a charcoal and wood-fired hearth. The result is a menu of mezze and larger plates, best shared family-style, that draws inspiration from the spice-scented bazaars of the Middle East and the streets of the Mediterranean.
The kitchen is led by Chef Sujan Sarkar and Chef Sahil Sethi, who have meticulously researched and planned each dish. The cooking is straightforward and bold, with the woodfire lending a primal smokiness to the ingredients. The menu offers a range of options, including a $60 chef's tasting menu, an à la carte selection, and a happy hour menu, all designed to showcase the depth of Middle Eastern cuisine.
The space itself is spread across a beautiful ground floor and an expansive all-seasons terrace, providing a welcoming setting for everything from an intimate dinner to a larger gathering. The atmosphere is warm and refined, a backdrop that lets the food take center stage. The Chicago Tribune has rated the restaurant three stars, praising its "flawless execution." Whether you are exploring the cocktail menu or diving into the wood-fired specialties, Sifr offers a genuine and memorable dining experience in the heart of Chicago.
