Fogo de Chão brings the centuries-old tradition of churrasco to 222 W. 47th Street. The name itself means "floor of fire," a direct reference to the open-flame cooking that defines this Brazilian steakhouse. Since 1979, the restaurant has kept the flames of this culinary art burning, offering a dining experience rooted in the mountainous landscapes of Rio Grande do Sul.

The founders grew up on a traditional Southern Brazilian farm in the Serra Gaucha, learning to cook in the churrasco style that would become the backbone of the concept. After formal training as churrasqueiros and a first restaurant in Porto Alegre, the brand expanded to the United States at the request of loyal American guests. The Kansas City location is part of that ongoing journey, a place where the heritage of the founders’ families is respected and served tableside.

The Full Churrasco Experience

At its heart, the experience is built around continuous service of fire-roasted cuts of meat, carved directly at your table by gaucho chefs. The menu is anchored by the Churrasco Experience, which includes a rotation of signature cuts like Picanha (the prime part of the top sirloin), Fraldinha (bottom sirloin), and Filet Mignon. For a limited time, the Fogo Four Course offers a selection of these fire-roasted cuts alongside a seasonal Market Table, authentic sides, and a choice of dessert.

Alongside the meats, the Market Table provides a fresh and vibrant counterpoint, with salads, vegetables, and imported cheeses. Bar Fogo offers a separate space for Brazilian-inspired small plates, award-winning wines, and cocktails—including the classic Caipirinha. The restaurant is also a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence winner, a recognition that speaks to the care taken with its wine program, which includes a Founders Tribute Wine Collection with pairings designed for specific cuts.
