The story
Perched on the second floor of The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort, The Ocean Room commands sweeping views of sand dunes and the Atlantic. The restaurant’s Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star rating speaks to the precision and care behind every detail—from the 21-day wet-aged USDA Certified Angus Beef to a wine list that numbers more than 1,000 labels.
Chef de Cuisine Steven Brooks, a native of Germany, brings a global perspective honed in kitchens across Europe, Asia, and North America. His Heritage Dinner Series is a monthly tasting menu paired with wines, each edition drawing inspiration from a different culinary tradition. The current July Heritage Menu is one example of how the kitchen explores flavors beyond the classic steakhouse repertoire, while still honoring the restaurant’s core identity.
The Ocean Room is first and foremost a destination for steak. The signature 16-ounce Ribeye is wet-aged for 21 days, yielding a tender, deeply savory cut, and is often finished with house-made béarnaise sauce. Additional specialty cuts appear based on availability, including a 130-degree tenderloin. Much of the beef comes from nearby Mibek Farm, where cattle are raised one at a time specifically for The Ocean Room—a testament to the kitchen’s commitment to sourcing.
Beyond the main dining room, the adjoining Lounge offers the full dinner menu alongside seasonal cocktails in a relaxed setting. The “Dining at Dusk” three-course menu provides an early evening option for those seeking a streamlined, elegant meal at a more approachable pace.
Dress code is elevated—long-sleeved collared shirts, dress slacks, and closed-toe shoes for gentlemen, cocktail attire for ladies. The atmosphere is refined yet warm, with the six window-side tables offering the most coveted views of the ocean at sunset. Whether for a special occasion or an intimate dinner, The Ocean Room delivers a consistent, polished experience that justifies its Five-Star standing.
